Inspired Action

A couple days ago, I had complete cabin fever. It was 7:30pm, I had just logged off work and I had a ton of stuff to do. But I didn't feel like doing any of it. Nor did I feel like watching tv, or relaxing. Since I am still on my mission to not shop, I opted not to go to the glamorous shopping mall right across the street from my place, and instead went for a drive. I ended up at Target, the mecca of my spending, but whatever. Determined to stay true to my non-shop mission, I went straight for the books (which I spend so much money on anyway--but there are exceptions to every rule since it's both my career and my passion and also like, I may have seen a mug on the way that was the cutest thing ever to me. It's the small joys in life.)

I spent a while looking through about 20 books, reading the back, and reading their first pages. The combination of this... with this one specific title, that I now only remember one word from, sparked an idea. The glue to this story I'd been mulling over in my mind for years a memoir-esc version of my life, with a twist. I finally knew how to make it compelling. I heard the click in my mind, because I also know how hard it was to start to write something, when I didn't know the hook. I'd like my readers to get something MORE out of my work than just entertainment. I need it to resonate, for it to move them, for it to make them feel. I quickly wrote down the idea in my phone and went home to work on it. Only, life happens and I got so profoundly distracted that I fell asleep without writing down my thoughts.

The next morning, I woke up extra early to the idea again. This time, I took the time to write it out. My hand was writing too slow for the ideas that flowed out of me. And I wrote the very first scene, which is often hardest for me, and briefly outlined some chapters. But I'm excited to continue on the writing journey for this.

I say all of this to point out a few vital points. Had I not had that restless feeling, it would not have led me to where I ended up getting the idea. I feel that the universe is a magical place if we choose to believe it. I think that the age old saying, "Everything happens for a reason" rings true, always. So instead of sitting in my restlessness, I acted on it and look at where it led me. You never know what the future might bring and I hope this brings you hope.
